Fauna and flora
You will also have a chance to experience Franche Comté differently, by getting to know the fauna and flora, both from the region and elsewhere. Natural sites, a zoo and museums make every effort to give you a different kind of experience during your visit: learning about things while having fun. Located in unique settings, these spaces have animals, insects, flowers and plants from Franche Comté and from all over the world, some being common or preserved species, and prehistoric species as well. Places such as the zoo at the Citadel of Besançon are internationally recognized for their commitment to preserving endangered animal species (wildcats, primates, birds, etc).
As one of Vauban’s major masterpieces, and now magnificently restored, the Citadel of Besançon is considered to be one of the most beautiful in France.
